Ogle County Snowmobile Rescue was formed in the fall of 2011 by the Tri-County Snowmobile Clubs in Ogle County with support from the Ogle County Emergency Management Agency, Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Protection Districts located throughout Ogle County.  The Snowmobile Rescue has been through basic snowmobile safety/rescue course provided by the Rockford Park District.  Upcoming training includes first aid training, CPR/AED and introduction to NIMS ICS 100 and ICS 200.  In the event of winter weather such as the “Blizzard of 2011” the Snowmobile Rescue will be called upon to assist in protecting the citizens of Ogle County under the coordination and direction of Sheriff Brian VanVickle.  For more information on Club and Trail Information in Ogle County please go to www.tcsnowmobile.com

 

CERT

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train volunteers to assist first responders in emergency situations in their communities.  CERT members give critical support to first responders in emergencies, provide immediate assistance to victims, organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site, and collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.  The role of a CERT volunteer is self-help/neighbor-help until such time as trained first-response personnel arrive.

The CERT course is taught in the community by a trained team of first responders who have completed a CERT Train-the-Trainer course conducted by their state training office for emergency management, or FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI), located in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  Training of CERT volunteers consists of 20 hours of instruction on topics that include disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, and light search and rescue operations.

Citizens Corps

Citizen Corps provides opportunities for people across the country to participate in a range of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds.  Through public education, training opportunities, and volunteer programs, every American can do their part to be better prepared and better protected.

Citizen Corps is managed at the local level by Citizen Corps Councils, which bring together existing crime prevention, natural disaster preparedness, and public health response networks with the volunteer community and other groups.  These Citizen Corps Councils will organize public education on disaster management and preparedness, citizen training, and volunteer programs to give people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to support their community’s emergency services and to safeguard themselves and their property.

Activities under Citizens Corps include existing and new federally sponsored programs administered under the Department of Justice (Neighborhood Watch, Volunteers in Police Service, and Operation TIPS), under FEMA (Community Emergency Response Teams – CERT), and under DHHS (Medical Reserve Corps), as well as other activities that share the common goal of community and family safety.
