Court Supervision For Traffic Offenses
Court Supervision is a way of keeping your traffic ticket off your
public driving
record.
As long as you don't receive another traffic ticket within the given supervision
time period your current ticket stays off your public record.
Court supervision can only be obtained if you have not received it within the past
year.
There are two ways to obtain court supervision.
You may ask for it in the courtroom or
take a traffic safety course.
If you wish to obtain court supervision through the courtroom,
you need to appear in court on the date the officer gave you on your ticket and
ask for court supervision. Your court date and time are at the
bottom of your ticket.
If your offense is a minor one, and you are not required to appear in court, you may
apply for Traffic Safety School. This is a one time, four hour class through Rock
Valley College in Rockford. They also offer classes in Belvidere, Dixon, Freeport
and Elizabeth, IL. The classes are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings
from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturdays from 8:00am to 12:00 noon or 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Date and
Time Cannot be Guaranteed.
To enroll in traffic school you need to come to
the Ogle County Circuit Clerk's office, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, anytime before the court
date on the bottom of your ticket. There, you need to fill out the registration form
and pay the $30.00 school registration fee plus your traffic fine of $75.00 or $95.00.
If your driver's license was held for bond, you would receive it at this time.
Your registration form will be sent to Rock Valley College, who, will in turn send
you your scheduled class date. If you have any conflicts, you can contact the school
at 815-921-3940.
If you live outside the area, you can also contact the school to
check on a participating school in your area. However,
you can only obtain the appropriate forms from our office in Oregon, IL for the
Traffic Safety School. You can only take the traffic school
once a year. If you are found to be ineligible, the $30.00 registration fee is
non-refundable. |
Court Supervision Questions
Obtaining court
supervision does NOT guarantee your insurance rates will not
increase. Your citation will still be reported to the Illinois
Secretary of State. It will be reported that you received court
supervision as opposed to a conviction. It is up to the discretion of
each individual insurance company as to what action they take. Every
company differs in their policies & procedures. The object of
receiving court supervision is to keep a conviction off your driving public record.
