W.I.C. (Women, Infants, and Children) Program

Ogle County Health Department nurses provide assessment services, nutrition education and supplemental foods to assure pregnant and lactating women, infants, and children the best chance for successful growth and development. We strive to improve nutritional status and  encourage breastfeeding for pregnant women.

What is WIC?
WIC (Women, Infants, Children) is a federally funded supplemental nutrition program that provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy food benefits, and access to other programs and resources.

Increase in Fruits & Vegetables
Get more fruits and vegetables! Benefits for purchasing fruits and vegetables have been temporarily increased for all WIC participants! Depending on WIC category, participants can receive up to $47 a month on fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables.

What is in a WIC food package?
WIC food packages may contain milk, cheese, yogurt, tofu, fruits, vegetables, cereals, whole grains (bread, pasta, rice, tortilla shells), beans, peanut butter, fish, juice, eggs, and infant foods. Food packages may vary and can be tailored to match individual needs.

Who is eligible for WIC?
Pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to the age of 5 are eligible. Eligibility is based on nutritional needs, income, and/or participation in Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF.  For additional eligibility see Income Guidelines.
 
WIC and breastfeeding!
WIC is a program dedicated to promoting, educating, and assisting families in breastfeeding success! All staff are knowledgeable and specially trained to provide breastfeeding education and support. WIC can also help you get access to a breast pump. Additionally, breastfeeding mothers and infants are able to get the largest food package offered through the program! What else can WIC help with?
WIC can assist families in getting access to medical care, dental care, immunizations, lead testing, Family Case Management, Early Intervention, mental health services, and many other community resources and programs.
